At the Costessey surgery we are able to offer a range of routine appointments for small animals and family pets including vaccinations, general health checks and consultations. We are also pleased to provide care to pets who are experiencing issues with ears, eyes and skin. Our sister branches are available to provide additional care elements to our Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership Clients.

As the surgery has grown it has retained its friendly local feel and staff pride themselves with the individual service and excellent care offered to clients and their pets.

Outside normal hours it may be necessary for you to take your pet to our larger Chapelfield Road branch in Norwich and out-of-hours emergencies are seen at Taverham Vets by the Norwich Night Vet Team. In the event of an emergency outwith normal opening hours, please telephone the surgery as normal and follow the instructions.

Pharmacy

Repeat Prescriptions

The Dispensary is open every weekday from 8:00am to 6:00pm and 8:00am to 11:00am on Saturdays. You are welcome to pop in at any time during these hours to purchase flea treatment, wormers etc. and to collect repeat prescriptions. We do however need at least 48 hours advance notice for repeat prescriptions.

If you have a patient who is on long term treatment we are able to provide repeat courses of treatment as long as we carry out periodic re-examinations of the patient in line with the law and at the discretion of the treating veterinary surgeon. We will normally provide repeat treatments for 3 months before we request that a re-check be undertaken. This is a legal requirement to ensure that the patient is suitably fit to continue receiving the current treatment at the appropriate dosage and that the animal can be deemed to be under our care.

Important Notes on Prescriptions

Prescriptions are available from this practice.

You may obtain Prescription Only Medications, Category V,(POM-Vs) from us OR ask for a prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. We may prescribe POM-Vs only for animals under our care.

A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary. You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be dispensed for your animal.

The general policy of this practice is to re-assess an animal requiring repeat prescriptions every 3 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances. The standard price for a prescription is £28.50 (including VAT).

Payment & Insurance

Payment

We do ask that all fees are paid within 7 days of receiving the treatment. A guide to fees is available on request. All major credit/debit cards accepted. If you are worried about cost we will be glad to give an estimate before commencing treatment. We recommend pet insurance to help cope with unexpected bills and proposal forms are available at the surgery.

Insurance

We are only able to process direct insurance claims (where the insurance company pays the amount owed minus your excess directly to the practice) on claims totalling £500 and over. If your bill is less than this, you will be expected to settle your bill in full at the time of treatment and then make a claim for reimbursement from your insurance company.

You can hand in your insurance form at reception once you have completed your section of it. We will then process and complete your form which can either be collected from the surgery or posted back to you for you to send to your insurance company. Alternatively, with your permission, we can send the forms directly to your insurance company.

Second Opinions/ Referrals

Please note that at any time during your pet’s treatment you may request a second opinion or referral. We will be happy to advise on second opinion/referral centres and provide clinical notes etc. to the referral centre. Occasionally a referral is the desired course of action in complicated small animal and equine cases. If this situation arises the treating veterinary surgeon will discuss this with you.

Looking to register with our Costessey practice?

Once you are registered and accepted as a client of the practice, we will provide routine and emergency services according to our terms and conditions of business. If you wish to make a routine appointment simply call the office during normal hours on 01603 743725. For routine services it is advisable to arrange the appointment several days in advance if a specific date is required. Same day appointments for routine visits are normally available but not always possible to guarantee, with the exception of an emergency.

Small animal appointments during consulting hours will be allocated at the time of booking and are dependent on availability.

Whilst we make every effort to keep all appointments, the nature of veterinary practice means that there are occasions when the vet will have to cancel or re-organise a pre-arranged appointment at short notice to attend an emergency situation, or a different vet from that previously booked to attend may attend. We endeavour to keep you informed of any changes and to minimise any disruption or inconvenience caused by the necessary prioritisation of emergency calls.

Directions to Costessey Surgery

From outer Norwich via southern bypass (A47):

Coming from easterly direction on A47, leave at junction for the Norfolk Showground. Take last exit on first roundabout, cross over the A47 and take second exit at next roundabout, following signs for Costessey (A1074 Dereham Road). Coming from westerly direction on A47, leave at junction for Norfolk Showground, take second exit at roundabout, following signs for Costessey (A1074 Dereham Road).

Continue along A1074 Dereham Road towards Norwich centre, through first set of traffic lights. At roundabout continue straight on (2nd exit) to next set of traffic lights, next to a BP garage. Turn left along Norwich Road and the clinic is located on the right after about 1/3 mile. Client parking is accessed by turning right immediately after clinic onto Valley Road and first right into client parking area.

From central Norwich: From A140 either direction, take roundabout exit on A1074 Dereham Road. Continue along road for about ¾ mile, until traffic lights with BP garage on right. Turn right along Norwich Road and the clinic is located on the right after about 1/3 mile. Parking is accessed by turning right immediately after clinic onto Valley Road and first right into client parking area.
