Consultations

Consultations

Small animal consultations are by appointment only at our Brooke and Long Stratton surgeries. Computer records are linked between the two surgeries. We ask that you report to reception immediately on arrival at the surgery. If your dog is coughing or barks a lot or does not like other dogs, you can wait outside or in your car until the vet calls you in for your appointment. We ask that all cats, rabbits and small cage pets are brought to their consultation in a securely fastened and suitable pet carrier and that all dogs are on a securely fitting collar and lead or slip lead.

Emergency Service

Equine & Farm Emergency Service

Out of normal hours we have equine and farm animal veterinary surgeons and nurses providing emergency services. This service is for emergencies only; please make all other enquires during normal working hours.

In the event of an emergency out with normal working hours, simply call the normal office number (Long Stratton 01508 530686, Brooke 01508 558228) and your call will automatically be taken by our medical answering service, who will take your details and a brief description of the problem. This information will then be immediately sent to the on-call vet by a paging system. If for any reason you do not hear from the on call vet within 15 minutes please contact the answering service again. This may be due to a delay within the telecom network or if the vet is in the middle of treating an emergency. They will endeavor to contact you as soon as possible.

Please note that charges for out-of-hours emergencies are higher than normal charges. A cost estimate can be given over the phone on request.

Small Animal Emergency Service

In the event of an emergency, outside of normal opening hours, phone your surgery as normal on 01508 530686 and you will be given details of the procedure to follow.

If your pet needs a vet outside our normal opening hours, you will need to take it to Taverham Vets where it will be treated at by their dedicated and experienced emergency team – Norwich Night-Vet (NNV). NNV provide a genuine A&E Veterinary Emergency Service throughout nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Nurse Clinics

Nurse Clinics

Appointments with our qualified nurses are available every day. Nail clipping, suture removals and other procedures can be undertaken by the nurses at these appointments. The nurses also run weight clinics for overweight pets. Regular weighing and encouragement for owners plus any dietary adjustments can be made.

Operations

Operations

Routine operations are generally performed in the mornings to allow your animal time to recover post operatively before you collect in the afternoon. You will be advised, in advance of your pet's operation, about witholding water and food to ensure your pet has an empty stomach before their operation. You will be given an admission appointment for the morning of your pet's operation where you will generally be seen by one of the practice nurses. The admissions nurse will advise you on when you should contact the practice to get a collection time.
