Learn About Our Story
Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership is a five branch partnership in Norfolk with roots going back over 100 years.
Norwich
The very first roots of Chapelfield Veterinary Practice were established in 1904 when John Pollock FRCVS built a clinic in Orford Place, Red Lion Street, Norwich. And it was from here that the vets used to ride horses out before work in the mornings.
The present day surgery at 21 Chapelfield Road was opened in 1962 by John Maclintock MRCVS and was known as McLintock & Partners.
After John McLintock retired, the surgery was re-named Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership as the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons did not allow veterinary businesses to trade under the name (goodwill) of a former owner.
Originally this city centre location used to cater for livestock and horses. Eventually, the practicalities of transporting and accommodating an increasing number of large animals in the city, lead the practice to change direction and concentrate on companion animals instead. And today the surgery is still a busy and thriving small animal practice.
Long Stratton & Brooke
Over in Long Stratton, our first veterinary clinic appeared in the mid 1960’s. The clinic started in a side-extension of the house belonging to R Asher MRCVS, a partner in McLintock & Partners.
The clinic has taken on many guises and occupied several sites in Long Stratton and, in 2000, moved to our purpose built surgery on Tharston Industrial Estate.
The Long Stratton branch looks after all companion animals as well as being the main hub for our livestock services and, up until recently, equine vets. The demand for our equine services was such that we outgrew the stables at Long Stratton and moved to our new, purpose built, Equine Clinic located in Brooke, in 2012.
The Brooke Equine Clinic is well placed to provide specialised equine veterinary care throughout Norfolk and north Suffolk. Here we provide routine and emergency equine veterinary care for horses, ponies and donkeys of all ages and types. We also offer medical and surgical referral and second opinion services to local veterinary practices.
The Brooke small animal branch was established in 1998 as a branch surgery of Long Stratton. We were located in a small wooden building at the business unit off High Green. This site was previously used for the cow sheds that housed Spurgeon’s Jersey herd.
In 2012 we moved the very short distance across Brooke and joined with the new Equine Clinic and this is where we do our small animal consultations.
Wymondham
Across the county in Wymondham, the surgery has been located in a custom designed new building in Postmill Close since 2002. This move was made after 32 years in the previous premises in Stile Lane. The new premises were built to provide excellent facilities set in modern, light and roomy surroundings.
Costessey
Finally, our branch at Costessey was established by Oliver Illing MRCVS in the early 1970’s and occupies a former semi-detatched house. Over the years the surgery has expanded and following, the purchase of the adjoining property, the building was extended and modified.
In 2018 Chapelfield Vets was bought out by Independent Vet Care (IVC).
