long_stratton_square_small.jpgA brief history

A Long Stratton veterinary clinic first appeared in the 1960's. It has taken many guises and occupied several sites in Long Stratton - from a lean-to on one of the partner's house, a port-a-cabin in another's front garden, to a small premise on the main road opposite Swan Lane. The last move was in 2000 to the current facility on the entrance to the Long Stratton industrial estate.

The equine, large animal and small animal departments at the Long Stratton clinic have expanded considerably over recent years with the provision of inpatient and surgical facilities for all species. In light of continued growth we are planning considerable investment in the building of a purpose built, RCVS accredited, Tier 3 equine hospital along with further expansion and development of the small animal facilities over the next few years. It is hoped that the new equine facility will be sited close to the Long Stratton area.

The small animal vets at Long Stratton also provide routine consulting and emergency services for the clients of our Brooke surgery. Please not that it may be necessary for these clients to travel to the Long Stratton surgery out of normal hours.

Registering as a new client

If you have recently moved to the area, have just acquired a new pet/animal or have decided to change your veterinary practice, the process of registering is very simple. All you need to do is call the clinic onĀ  01508 530686 and inform the receptionist that you would like to become a client and would like to register your animals. They will take all your details, including your animal's and enter them into our computer records. In order to avoid delays and potential compromise to your animal's welfare we would advise you to register with the practice before the need for emergency services. If necessary we will need your consent to contact your previous vets for your animals' clinical notes.

Making a routine Appointment

Once you are registered and accepted as a client of the practice, we will provide routine and emergency services according to our terms and conditions of business. If you wish to make a routine appointment simply call the office during normal hours. For routine services it is advisable to arrange the appointment several days in advance if a specific date is required. Same day appointments for routine visits are normally available but not always possible to guarantee, with the exception of an emergency. For equine and farm animal appointments, you may be given a specific time or time window, or you may be asked to call the office on the day of the appointment to arrange/confirm a time. Small animal appointments during consulting hours will be allocated at the time of booking and are dependant on availability.

Whilst we make every effort to keep all appointments, the nature of veterinary practice means that there are occasions when the vet will have to cancel or re-organise a pre-arranged appointment at short notice to attend an emergency situation, or a different vet from that previously booked to attend may attend. We endeavour to keep you informed of any changes and to minimize any disruption or inconvenience caused by the necessary prioritization of emergency calls.

PHARMACY

Drug collections

The pharmacy is stocked with a large range of small animal, large animal and equine drugs. This enables us to supply you and your animal with the medications best suited to treat your animals needs. Dispensed drugs can normally be collected from reception immediately following any small or large animal at the clinic. We receive a daily delivery from our wholesaler which ensures that we have adequate supplies. Special or unusual orders received before 4.30pm are generally delivered the following day. Please give 48hrs notice for repeat prescriptions to ensure the drugs are ready for you to collect at your convenience. Unfortunately we are unable to post prescription drugs.

Repeat Prescriptions

If you have a patient who is on long term treatment we are able to provide repeat courses of treatment as long as we carry out periodic re-examinations of the patient in line with the law and at the discretion of the treating veterinary surgeon. We will normally provide repeat treatments for 3 months before we request that a re-check be undertaken. This is a legal requirement to ensure that the patient is suitably fit to continue receiving the current treatment at the appropriate dosage and that the animal can be deemed to be under our care.
