The Brooke Veterinary Surgeons all consult at the Long Stratton Branch thus enabling us to offer a continuity of care across the two branches.

Emergency Cover and Out of Hours Arrangements

The Brooke phone line is diverted to Long Stratton outside Brooke office hours for booking appointments and emergency services.

Out of normal hours we have both small animal and equine/farm animal veterinary surgeons and nurses providing emergency services for all our clients. This service is for emergencies only; please make all other enquires during normal working hours.

In the event of an emergency out with normal working hours, simply call the normal office number (Long Stratton 01508 530 686, Brooke 01508 558 228) and your call will automatically be taken by our medical answering service, who will take your details and a brief description of the problem. This information will then be immediately sent to the on-call vet by a paging system. If for any reason you do not hear from the on call vet within 15 minutes please contact the answering service again. This may be due to a delay within the telecom network or if the vet is in the middle of treating an emergency. They will endeavor to contact you as soon as possible.

Registering as a new client

If you have recently moved to the area, have just acquired a new pet/animal or have decided to change your veterinary practice, the process of registering is very simple. All you need to do is call the clinic on the office number and inform the receptionist that you would like to become a client and would like to register your animals. They will take all your details, including you animal's and enter them into our computer records. In order to avoid delays and potential compromise to your animal's welfare we would advise you to register with the practice before the need for emergency services. If necessary we will need your consent to contact your previous vets for your animals' clinical notes.

Making a routine Appointment

Once you are registered and accepted as a client of the practice, we will provide routine and emergency services according to our terms and conditions of business. If you wish to make a routine appointment simply call the office during normal hours. For routine services it is advisable to arrange the appointment several days in advance if a specific date is required. Equine, farm, and small animal home visits are booked through the Long Stratton Branch. Small animal appointments during consulting hours will be allocated at the time of booking and are dependant on availability.

Whilst we make every effort to keep all appointments, the nature of veterinary practice means that there are occasions when the vet will have to cancel or re-organise a pre-arranged appointment at short notice to attend an emergency situation, or a different vet from that previously booked to attend may attend. We endeavour to keep you informed of any changes and to minimize any disruption or inconvenience caused by the necessary prioritization of emergency calls.

CONSULTATIONS

Small animal consultations are by appointment only at our Brooke and Long Stratton surgeries. Computer records are linked between the two surgeries. We ask that you report to reception immediately on arrival at the surgery. If your dog is coughing or barks a lot or does not like other dogs, you can wait outside or in your car until the vet calls you in for your appointment. We ask that all cats, rabbits and small cage pets are brought to their consultation in a securely fastened and suitable pet carrier and that all dogs are on a securely fitting collar and lead or slip lead. Saturday morning surgery at Long Stratton is for emergency and urgent cases only.

Equine Passports

It is illegal to own a horse, pony or donkey without being in possession of a valid passport for that animal. Passports can be obtained very easily from a number of breed societies. We have a supply of equine passports in stock which can be easily completed during a routine visit by the attending veterinary surgeon. Please have your passport available for inspection/completion during all routine visits so that vaccinations can be recorded and any drugs that may need to be listed can be added to the medicines section if necessary

Repeat Prescriptions

If you have a patient who is on long term treatment we are able to provide repeat courses of treatment as long as we carry out periodic re-examinations of the patient in line with the law and at the discretion of the treating veterinary surgeon. We will normally provide repeat treatments for 3 months before we request that a re-check be undertaken. This is a legal requirement to ensure that the patient is suitably fit to continue receiving the current treatment at the appropriate dosage and that the animal can be deemed to be under our care.

Please give us 48hrs notice to when ordering repeat prescriptions if possible.

Drug collections

The surgery is stocked with a large range of small animal, large animal and equine drugs. This enables us to supply you and your animal with the medications best suited to treat your animals needs. Dispensed drugs can normally be collected from reception immediately following your consultation at the clinic. We receive a daily delivery from our wholesaler which ensures that we have adequate supplies. Special or unusual orders received before 4.30pm are generally delivered the following day. Please give 48hrs notice for repeat prescriptions to ensure the drugs are ready for you to collect at your convenience. Unfortunately we are unable to post prescription drugs.
